Listed House Refurbishment and Studio, Suffolk

This Grade II listed sixteenth century house was refurbished and altered by Mark Hoare in 2006.

The alterations included significant improvements in energy efficiency and insulation. A ground-source heat pump was installed to provide heating.

Layout changes were made to areas which had been poorly altered in the 1960s and 1970s. The alterations improved the flow between rooms and the use of space. Inappropriate 1970s windows were replaced. New oak panelling and a stair incorporating a box bed were installed, introducing a playful and at times theatrical backdrop for family life. A new garden amphitheatre and formal  lawns and orchards extend this character outside.

In close proximity to the house is a new garden building functioning variously as studio, home office and annexe.
